About Breakout Scanner

The problem

Most stock screeners stop at the list. You configure filters, get a set of matching stocks, and then you're on your own. There's no built-in way to check whether that screen has any historical edge, no easy way to iterate on the parameters, and the filter interfaces themselves are slow to work with when you have a specific idea in mind.

Breakout Scanner was designed to close that gap. It combines AI-powered screening with integrated backtesting so that every screen can be tested against historical data before it's traded.

How it works

Breakout Scanner pulls fresh closing data daily for over 30,000 stocks across 22 exchanges (NYSE, NASDAQ, LSE, TSX, ASX, XETRA, Euronext, HKEX, and more). It runs four built-in screeners on every stock: three signal engines and one early-warning tool.

  • Momentum Breakoutmomentum breakouts filtered to the top 10% of 12-month relative strength, a selective filter that surfaces fewer signals.
  • Strength Leadersstocks entering the top decile of 12-month relative strength across the US market.
  • Trend Leadersthe same relative-strength filter, restricted to stocks in a clean uptrend.
  • Ceiling Watchan early-warning list of names approaching a long-term ceiling before the breakout. Feed your watchlist and alerts.

Every built-in screener's full backtest is available in the Lab, so you can review its historical results and methodology yourself. Backtested figures are survivor-biased and measured before slippage; they describe historical behaviour, not a promise of future returns.

Beyond the built-in screeners, users can describe any strategy in plain English (“stocks above the 200-day average with relative volume over 2x, near 52-week highs”) and the AI will generate a structured screener using SMAs, EMAs, volume ratios, and price levels. These custom screeners can be saved, modified, and backtested at any time.

Integrated backtesting

The backtest lab runs any screener configuration against historical OHLCV data and reports how the setup behaved after each signal across multiple time horizons (5-day, 10-day, 20-day, 60-day), with the methodology, assumptions, and limitations laid out alongside the results.

Backtested results are hypothetical and do not account for slippage, commissions, or market impact. They are useful for evaluating whether a pattern has shown a historical edge, but should not be treated as a guarantee of future results.

Market coverage

Breakout Scanner covers 22 stock exchanges: NYSE, NASDAQ, LSE, TSX, TSXV, ASX, XETRA, Euronext, SIX, HKEX, TSE, NSE, BSE, KRX, TWSE, SSE, SZSE, B3, JSE, BME, and MIL. Data refreshes daily after each market closes. Stocks are filtered for minimum liquidity and data quality requirements.
